Eligibility Criteria to Avail Driving Licence (Saarthi) in Surat

An applicant must complete the following eligibility conditions to receive a driver's licence in Surat:  

  • To drive a motorcycle with an engine capacity of less than 50cc, an applicant must be at least 16 years old.
  • To receive a driving licence for a light motor vehicle or a motorcycle with gear, an applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • To get a heavy motor vehicle driver's licence, an applicant must be at least 20 years old.
  • The applicant for a commercial driver's licence must have at least one year of experience driving a light motor vehicle and have passed class 8.
  • Applicants must have successfully qualified for the learning licence.
  • Applicants need to wait for 30 days or 180 days from the date when the learning licence is matured.

  • Through the website- parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/, an individual can apply for an online driving licence in Surat. The applicant must first select online services before proceeding with driving licence-related services. The applicant will then have to choose from a variety of driving licence providers before uploading papers and paying payments online. The applicant will need to go to the RTO for document verification, after which a DL will be granted.
  • The applicant can also apply for a driver's licence at the RTO office in person. The form can be picked up at the RTO office or downloaded online. The form, along with the appropriate documentation, must be filled out and submitted to the RTO office. The DL will be sent to the applicant once the documents have been confirmed.
