When you buy car insurance, it is with the hope that it would be a quick, easy and convenient procedure. Your car insurance policy should be such that it gives you the confidence to not just drive our car confidently, but it also acts as an effective back-up in case something goes wrong. With the car insurance policies by Reliance General Insurance, you not only get yourself covered as per the Indian Motor Act but also enjoy a number of benefits.

The company offers customised car insurance at affordable prices and ensures the satisfaction of customers along with their and their car’s safety.

Also known as motor or vehicle insurance, car insurance covers your car against any unforeseen damages. The expenses that you have to incur because of the damage to your car and the damages or injury that the accident caused to a third party are covered, depending on the kind of insurance plan that you opt for. With its car insurance, the company offers:

Types of Reliance Motor Insurance Plans in India

  1. Private Car Insurance
As the name suggests, this type of cover is for private-use vehicles only. You can cover your car for your own-damages as well as third-party liabilities. It protects your car and lets you drive confidently.
    • Third-Party Liability
The third-party insurance is mandated by the government under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The damages or injuries that are caused to another person or his property because of your car are called third-party liabilities, as you are morally and legally bound to pay for them. With third-party liability insurance, the company would cover all these damages. It should be kept in mind that third-party car insurance only covers third-party insurance, the damages caused to your car are not covered under this policy.
    • Comprehensive Car Insurance Policy or Package Policy
As the name suggests, a comprehensive policy offers broad coverage. It is a combination of third-party insurance and own damage, and thus it covers the repair costs of your vehicle along with the damages and injury caused to the third party. A comprehensive car insurance policy, though not compulsory but surely more popular as it is an all-inclusive policy that includes the damages that are caused to your car. A comprehensive policy thus helps in safeguarding you from the financial burden that you would have to undertake in case of an accident.
    • Standalone Own-Damage Car Insurance
In case you have opted for third-party insurance for your car, but want to cover it for your own damages as well, you can buy an own-damage car insurance cover and save yourself from a financial burden that you may have to incur in case of an accident.
  2. Commercial Vehicle Insurance Plans
Commercial vehicle insurance is classified on the basis of the vehicle, let us take a look:
    • Passenger Carrying Vehicle Insurance
With passengers in your vehicle, it becomes a responsibility and duty for you to keep them secure and covered. Passenger Carrying Vehicle covers a vehicle that is used to fare passengers from one place to another. For example a cab or a bus. It covers the vehicle against natural as well as man-made calamities.
    • Goods Carrying Vehicle Insurance
This particular kind of insurance is for vehicles that are used to transport business goods and products from one place to another. It would offer coverage against theft, accidents, natural and man-made disasters.
    • Miscellaneous Vehicle Insurance
Vehicles such as tractors, excavators, mobile rigs, shovels, grabs, etc can be insured under miscellaneous vehicle insurance.

Benefits of Reliance Motor Insurance Plans

When you own a car, it is mandatory to have third-party insurance, but as we discussed earlier, third-party insurance would only cover the damages or injuries caused to the third party, with a comprehensive plan you can also cover the repair costs of your own vehicle. Such a plan would cover your car against almost all possible damages. Reliance comprehensive car insurance plan will cover collisions, thefts, fire, etc.

For motor claims, the company has come up with Reliance Self-i App where you can notify the claims right away. There is also the facility of a live video call with the company claim experts.

There are 2 ways for a car insurance claim for your repair costs, you can either go for a cashless claim or for reimbursement. In both of these methods, the amount will ultimately be paid by the company itself. No matter which method you choose, it is important to inform the company about the accident as soon as possible. An FIR/MCR would also have to be lodged at the nearest police station. You can call on the toll-free number- 91 22 4890 3009 to register a claim. The company would guide you forward. Let us see how the claim procedures work:

To make a cashless claim after an accident, you need to go to a network garage. The company will do a survey of your vehicle. After the survey, the claim would be settled directly by the company. You would not be required to bear the cost of repair.
  • Reimbursement
After an accident, if you do not take your car to a network garage, you can still file a request for the settlement of the claim through a reimbursement.
