Oriental Car Insurance

Oriental Insurance also offers car insurance, also called four-wheeler insurance. There are a few options available and depending on the kind of car you have and on the basis of your insurance needs you can select a plan that suits you:

  • Liability Only Car Insurance Policy
This kind of insurance is also called third-party insurance. In an accident, if your car causes damage or injury to a third-party or property, liability insurance will cover the costs of damage. Having a third-party insurance policy is mandated by the Indian Motor Act, 1988. The premiums of liability insurance are regulated by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). It covers the following in an accident involving the car:
    • Death of an individual
    • Physical injury to an individual
    • Damage caused to property of an individual
  • Car Package Insurance Policy
As the name suggests Package insurance policy is a package that includes liability-only cover along with own-damage. The damages to your car that are caused because of the following reasons are covered:
    • Accidents of external means
    • Thefts, riots, terrorist activity or vandalism
    • Self-ignition
    • Natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, landslides etc
    • While being transported via land/ rail/ elevator/ water/ air
  • Standalone Own-Damage Car Insurance
Buying a third-party liability insurance is compulsory, but keep in mind that in case of an accident your own-damages will not be covered. To cover the damages caused to your own vehicle, you can opt for a standalone own-damage car insurance policy that would cover the damages caused by:
    • Accidents of external means
    • Thefts or housebreaking
    • Self-ignition
    • Natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, landslides etc
    • Made-Made calamities such as riots, terrorist activity or vandalism
    • While being transported via land/ rail/ elevator/ water/ air
  • Add-On Covers
If you further wish to enhance the coverage for your car, you can include add-ons to your policy. These include:
    • Nil Depreciation Cover
There is a set rate of depreciation that is applicable to different car parts. With Nil Depreciation Cover, you can nullify these charges and claim a bigger amount.
    • Loss of Personal Effects
With this add-on, when you lose your personal belongings, you will receive compensation for the loss that you have suffered. Please refer to the company website for the list of items that are covered.
    • Alternate Car Benefits
If after an accident the cost of repair is more than 20% of its IDV, you can avail an allowance of INR 400 or INR 650 for up to 15 days. This would allow you to arrange for alternative transport till the time your car is under repair.

Oriental Two-Wheeler Insurance

For every motorised two-wheeler that runs on the Indian roads, it is mandatory to have an insurance policy. When you know the different aspects of two-wheeler insurance, you would be able to understand how insurance works and then make an informed decision about the kind of insurance that you need. Let us take a look at the different aspects of Oriental Two-Wheeler Insurance:

  • Liability Only Two-Wheeler Insurance Policy
Just like in car insurance, having a third-party insurance policy for a two-wheeler is mandated by the Indian Motor Act, 1988. In the event of an accident, if your two-wheeler/bike causes damage or injury to a third-party or property, the company will cover the costs of damage. The following losses/ damages will be covered:
    • Death of an individual
    • Physical injury to an individual
    • Damage caused to property of an individual
  • Two-Wheeler Package Insurance Policy
Package insurance policy is a more comprehensive kind of insurance, that includes third party liability cover along with own-damage. The damages caused to your two-wheeler/bike due to the following reasons are covered:
    • Accidents of external means
    • Thefts, riots, terrorist activity or vandalism
    • Self-ignition
    • Natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, landslides etc
    • While being transported via land/ rail/ elevator/ water/ air
  • Standalone Own-Damage Two-wheeler Insurance
In case of an accident, your third-party liability insurance will not cover your own-damages. If you wish to cover the damages caused to your two-wheeler, you can opt for a standalone own-damage policy that would cover the damages that are caused by:
    • Accidents of external means
    • Thefts or housebreaking
    • Self-ignition
    • Natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, landslides etc
    • Made-Made calamities such as riots, terrorist activity or vandalism

Oriental Insurance Company - Renewal of Expired Policy

When you buy a policy, it is very important that you keep its expiry in mind and get it renewed before it lapses. Once the policy reaches its expiry date, a 30-day Grace Period is given to you to get your insurance policy renewed. Remember, a claim made during the grace period is not accepted. You would also risk all the discounts and bonuses that may have been collected.

However, in case your policy has expired, you can get in touch with the customer care and seek their guidance. The procedure for renewal has been explained below:

  • Car and Two-Wheeler Insurance
To renew an expired car/ two-wheeler insurance policy, you have to get in touch with customer care and raise a request for the same. A company surveyor will be sent to assess your vehicle. You may have to produce the following documents:
  1. Govt authorised ID proof
  2. Copy of previous Insurance Policy Papers
  3. Copy of the RC
  4. Driver’s License
Once the surveyor submits his report and if your claim is accepted you will have to make the required payment. Your policy would then be renewed.
  • Health Insurance
If you want to continue with the coverage benefits you must get your policy renewed before the policy expires or during the grace period. If your policy has lapsed you have to get in touch with the customer care as soon as possible. They would guide you about the renewal process. Medical screening may be required depending upon the kind of health insurance and the sum insured opted by you.

Oriental Insurance Company - Claim Procedure

Whenever you need to make a claim, be it a motor insurance claim or a health insurance claim, the first thing that you have to do is to register it. You can do so by calling customer care or by doing so online through the company website.

  • Car and Two-Wheeler Insurance
Post-registration of the claim, you would be asked to take the vehicle for repair. If the damage is too much, you can also request for an ‘on-spot inspection’. At the garage, your vehicle will be assessed by a company surveyor. Once he submits his report, the claim can be made in the following ways:
    1. Cashless Claim
After the survey, the surveyor will submit a report regarding the damages and the cost of repair. After the submission of this report, if your claim is approved, you can take your vehicle for repair. When you get your vehicle to an empanelled garage, the company settles the claim with the garage directly. You would have to submit the Claim Form along with other required documents. Keep in mind that you would have to pay for the uncovered expenses from your own pocket. To locate a cashless garage near you click https://orientalinsurance.org.in/web/guest/workshops-cashless-facility?isSelected=locator&isRefresh=true
    2. Reimbursement
Make sure you inform the company about the accident as soon as possible. Your vehicle will be inspected by the surveyor and he will submit a report with the company. Post-approval, you can get the vehicle repaired. At a non-network garage, you would have to pay the final bill yourself.  Later, along with the Claim Form and KYC documents, you would have to submit all the repair-related bills and receipts with the company. Once all the paperwork is received by the company, the amount will be reimbursed in your bank account within a few days.
  • Health Insurance
In case of an accident or sickness, if your doctor prescribes hospitalisation, and you are eligible to make a claim, the first thing you need to do is to notify the company. You can do so by either calling the customer care on the toll-free number-1800 118 485 or by sending them an email.

You will soon receive an intimation about the claim registration. In the case of planned hospitalisation, you would have to inform the company at least 48 hours prior to admission and within 24 hours in case of emergency hospitalisation.  Depending on the kind of hospital you select, you would be able to make a claim. Let us take a look at the 2 ways you can make a claim in:

  • Cashless Claim
At a network hospital, you need to get in touch with the TPA. The executives would guide you through the cashless treatment. You would have to submit the Pre-Authorisation form along with the treatment-related documents. The executives will contact the company and all the paperwork will be verified. Once all formalities are complete, your bills will be settled. To find a network hospital near you click https://orientalinsurance.org.in/web/guest/network-hospitals?isSelected=locator&isRefresh=true
  • Reimbursement Claim
In case you took treatment at a non-network hospital, you can still make a claim, provided the chosen hospital meets the company’s definition of a hospital. Make sure you follow all the given instructions carefully. Inform the company and the TPA in time, when you have to make a claim. Post-hospitalisation you would have to submit the original hospitalisation related documents along with the Claim Form and other KYC documents. Once all the documents are verified by the TPA and the company you will get a reimbursement within a few days.
