Many diseases and conditions are unique to women, or they are more prone to suffering from some common ailments compared to other genders. Whether pregnancy, gynaecological conditions such as menstrual irregularities, menopause, uterine fibroids, pelvic floor disorder or conditions that only afflict females, like ovarian and cervical cancers, women often have specific medical care needs. Heart disease, osteoarthritis, stress, stroke and urinary tract infection are some more disorders that affect women more than others.

To cater to female consumers, TATA AIG has designed a Wellsurance Woman health insurance plan to offer financial protection and enable them to afford medical care should a need arise. Here’s all about the policy to determine whether it’s ideal for women or not.

TATA AIG Wellsurance Woman Policy-Specially Designed to Insure Women

TATA AIG health insurance Wellsurance Woman policy is specifically designed for women to protect them against diseases and offers various added benefits. It combines fixed benefits and indemnity plans and pays convalescence benefits in a lump sum when the woman is hospitalised for 5 consecutive days. An indemnity benefit covers the ambulance charges up to INR 2,000.

The plan’s other features include:

  • Hospital cash benefits are payable based on the number of days the policyholder stays in the hospital. These amounts are higher if the policyholder is admitted to the ICU or ICCU wards. Cash benefits foot the bills for incidental medical expenses during hospitalisation and are paid irrespective of the costs incurred.
  • Recuperation benefit.
  • Women-related critical illness benefits on the diagnosis of specified diseases the insured being hospitalised. This company pays this benefit unconditionally, and the policyholder is free to spend the money as they please.
  • Women-specific surgeries.
  • Cosmetic reconstructive surgery required for injuries resulting from an accident, with the benefit payable in a lump sum.
  • When it’s time for health insurance renewal, the insured has the option to increase the amount of sum insured, and they also have the grace period of 30 days.
  • Free look period of 15 days since the receipt of policy documents.

An Array of Value-added Benefits

While the above are the policy’s main features, many value-added benefits ensure the policyholder’s good health. These are:

  • Free health helpline where the customer can consult with expert medical practitioners for health and wellness-related information.
  • Comprehensive health portal that enables the policyholders to explore a host of benefits such as a personalised health tracker to monitor their health and fitness levels; access to exclusive health and wellness articles; they can also post a health query to TATA’s specialists.
  • They also receive health and wellness discounts on the company’s network of selected gyms, spas, skin care and weight management centres.
  • They can also avail of health perks, that is, get discounts on health checkup packages at the wide range of selected hospitals.

Consumers can buy online health insurance to protect them financially. The fixed benefit feature in the plan supports women in meeting financial liabilities in a medical emergency. Furthermore, the policy premium is payable monthly or annually, directly or through a cheque. It also comes with a lifelong renewability feature and tax benefits under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act. The policyholder can seek treatment at any of TATA’s 7,200+ network hospitals. Apart from critical illnesses, the TATA AIG Wellsurance Woman plan also offers coverage against COVID-19.

FAQs

1. What’s the entry age for the policy and the waiting period?

The entry age is a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 65 years. The policy has a waiting period of 90 days for all ailments and critical illnesses, which means you cannot raise a claim for three months from the plan’s inception date. There’s also a survival period of 30 days in critical illness coverage. However, there is no waiting period in case of hospitalisation due to an accident.

2. What are the critical illnesses covered under the TATA AIG Wellsurance Woman Plan?

The policy provides coverage against 11 critical illnesses that include cancer, first heart attack, stroke, paralysis, renal failure, coma, Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), major organ transplant, total blindness, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and major burns.

3. Does it cover pregnancy and other related conditions?

Unfortunately, this is one of TATA AIG Wellsurance Woman health insurance policy’s shortcomings — even though it’s a woman’s wellness plan, it does not cover pregnancy and related conditions. Maternity coverage and related services would have been one of the most beneficial features for policyholders. The policy will work better as a health insurance add-on/rider. You could buy a basic health policy covering pregnancy and its related conditions and plan as a bonus.

4. Does it cover pre-existing diseases?

No, the insurance policy does not cover any pre-existing condition or complications arising from it. However, if the policyholder has taken a similar Wellsurance Policy and continues it without a break for 4 consecutive years, the company provides coverage for pre-existing ailments.

5. What are the other exclusions of the TATA AIG Wellsurance Woman Policy?

Apart from pre-existing diseases, the exclusions of the TATA AIG Wellsurance Woman Policy are pretty much the same as most health insurance plans. Some of the conditions the does not offer coverage for are:

  • Intentionally self-inflicted injuries
  • Congenital abnormalities
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
  • Cosmetic procedures, unless it’s corrective surgery for injury caused by an accident or disease
  • Surgery for organ donation
  • AYUSH treatments
  • Hospitalisation due to war or war-like situations, terrorism and other conflicts
  • Hospitalisation resulting from alcohol or substance abuse, overdose or addiction
