Tata Harrier is the near-perfect ‘real’ SUV from the Tata camp, which can impress car drivers in India, and helped Tata to increase their market share in a short span. Launched in 2019, Tata Harrier is a 5-seater compact SUV, which is based on the OmegaArc platform.
Now, here’s an interesting fact: Tata Harrier is essentially a re-engineered form of the Jaguar Land Rover D8 platform, which gave the shape and presence to some of the legendary SUVs such as Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Jaguar E-Pace.
In terms of hierarchy, Tata Harrier replaced Tata Hexa and is currently positioned between Tata Nexon and the new midsize Tata Safari.
Tata Harrier’s two main features are its futuristic design and its powerful engine.
While the design is based on Impact Design 2.0 philosophy, which ensures a majestic road presence, a great deal of dynamism, and imposing proportions; its engine is truly world-class.
The Kryotec 2.0 L Turbocharged Engine has a 6-speed automatic and manual transmission and is available only in the diesel variant. With a capacity of 1956cc with in-line 4-cylinders, this powerful engine is manufactured by Fiat. In fact, the same factory also manufactures the engines of Jeep Compass and MG Hector. The maximum power output of this engine is 170PS @ 3750RPM, while the maximum torque achieved is 350Nm @ 1750-2500RPM.
While the base variant is priced at INR 13.99 Lakh, the top variant is priced at INR 20.45 Lakh (Ex-showroom, New Delhi)

Damages Caused in Fire: If your car catches fire, your car policy will pay for the damages.
Damages Due to Natural/Man-made Disaster: When flood, hurricane, hail storm, tornado, riots, etc attack your car, your insurance policy comes in handy.
Personal Accident: In case you meet with an accident that leads to injuries or unfortunately death, your policy will offer compensation of up to INR 15 lakh.
Note: You will have to buy PA Cover separately.
Drunken Driving: No car insurance company will accept your claim if you were drunk or under an intoxicant when the accident happened.
Unauthorised Driving: Your claim will be rejected if the driver is without a valid Driver’s License.
Deliberate Accident: If the accident has been caused purposely, the claim will be rejected.
Consequential Damages: Consequential damages that are caused after the accident are not covered under insurance.
Negligence: An accident occurs because of your own negligence, you won’t be able to claim the damages.
Depreciation: Damages that are caused because of normal wear and tear, mechanical or electric failure due to travelling.
Expired policy: If the policy has lapsed, your damages will not be covered.

The new automatic transmission is a real beauty to drive, and car enthusiasts will simply love the rev and acceleration which it generates. This compact SUV is one of the most finely engineered products from Tata Motors, and every aspect of this vehicle proves this fact. Spacious interiors, huge boot space (425 liters), and solid build quality of Tata Harrier have set a new benchmark in this segment.
Some drivers have claimed that at slow speed (less than 10kmpl), the steering becomes a tad lethargic and unresponsive, which can be an issue while parking the car, or crawling in a traffic jam. And the gearbox could have been a bit more smooth. The absence of petrol variant is also a sore-point, for a few.
Overall, Tata Harrier is a great compact SUV, which has been created to rule the road.
While 3rd party insurance is mandatory, and a must, Comprehensive Insurance is recommended for a new car, always. The 3rd party only covers the damage done to another entity during an accident, while your car and the passengers/driver of your car remain uninsured. Comprehensive insurance covers both 3rd parties and you.
Yes. As per Govt rules (Motor Vehicles Act), every vehicle should have at least 3rd party insurance. And this covers every type of 4-wheelers and 2-wheelers in India. Traffic cops will impose a penalty if you don’t have the mandatory car insurance.
The exact details of coverage depends on the insurance providers. But in general, the following five aspects are covered in a Comprehensive or 1st Party Insurance:
While injuries and death to a 3rd party have unlimited coverage, the damage to 3rd party property is covered till INR 7.5 lakh.
The insurance premium always depends on several factors, but the major factor is the Insured Declared Value (IDV), and for a new car, the IDV is always more, and for an old car, the IDV is always less. Thus, the premium differs for both.
