If you wish to drive your motor vehicles in a public place in India, then having a driving licence is an essential requirement. The Regional Transport Authority of Arunachal Pradesh has made it mandatory to have a valid driving licence to drive in the state. This authority is established as per the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Different Types of Driving Licences in Arunachal Pradesh

The types of driving licences in Arunachal Pradesh are as follows: 

  1. Light Motor Vehicle Licence: Issued for light motor vehicles such as cars or bikes
  2. Medium Motor Vehicle Licence: Issued for medium/commercial vehicles such as tempos, delivery trucks, etc.
  3. Heavy Motor Vehicle Licence: Issued for heavy vehicles such as commercial trucks
  4. Commercial Motor Vehicle Licence: Issued for commercial vehicles such as box trucks, trailers, etc.
  5. Motorcycle Without Gear Licence: Issued for motorcycles without gears, including mopeds, scooters, and vehicles under 50CC
  6. Motorcycle With Gear Licence: Issued for driving motorcycles with gears

What is the Eligibility Criteria to Avail Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh?

To avail a driving licence in Arunachal Pradesh, the Regional Transport Authority has listed a few eligibility criteria. 

  • To drive a motorcycle under 50CC, the applicant must be 16 years of age.
  • To drive a private vehicle, the applicant's age must be 18 years.
  • To drive a non-transport vehicle, the applicant's age must be 20 years. 
  • An applicant applying for a non-transport vehicle licence should have a complete one year of experience of driving a light motor vehicle. 
  • Possession of a valid learner’s licence for the applicant is a must. 
  • The application for a permanent driving licence should be given in 30 days after applying for a learner’s licence. 
  • It is mandatory for the applicant to be aware of all the traffic rules and regulations prescribed by the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

What are the Documents Required to Avail a Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh? 

In order to obtain a driving licence in Arunachal Pradesh, the applicant should have a list of documents as mentioned below:

  • The applicant must pay an application fee of INR 200 and INR 50 for the driving licence test. 
  • A valid learner’s licence 
  • In the case of a private vehicle, application form 4
  • In the case of a commercial vehicle, application form 5 
  • The applicant must provide a ration card, Voter's ID card, Aadhar card as address proof. 
  • The applicant must provide documents such as a birth certificate school certificate to prove their age.

How to Avail a Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh?

To apply offline for a driver’s licence in Arunachal Pradesh, the applicant must visit the RTO and collect all the forms. These forms should be submitted with all the relevant documents. Once verified, a duplicate driving licence will be issued at the registered address of the applicant. The application for the driving licence can be filled out online by visiting the official website for Parivahan Sewa.

Availing a Duplicate Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh

For a duplicate driving licence in Arunachal Pradesh, you would require the following documents:

  • Copy of original driving licence
  • Details of DL (if stolen)
  • Copy of FIR (if stolen)
  • Application Form 1
  • Application form LLD
  • Challan clearance report (for a commercial DL)

You can apply for a duplicate driving licence in Arunachal Pradesh by using the online or offline method.

Availing a Renewed Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh

A driving licence in Arunachal Pradesh will be valid for up to 20 years or until the licence holder reaches the age of 50, whichever is earlier. The licence for commercial drivers is valid for 3 years, and they must be renewed within 5 years after its expiry. 

To renew the driving licence the applicant must visit the nearest RTO and fill out all the forms. Few relevant documents such as application form 9, form 1, Form 1A, application fee and a photocopy of the expired driving licence will also be required to attach with the forms. The driving licence can also be renewed online.

Availing an International Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh

The application for an international driving licence can be filled out online as well. To obtain an international driving licence in Arunachal Pradesh, the applicant will have to visit the nearest RTO and fill the forms and the documents mentioned below. 

  • A permanent driving licence 
  • A valid passport 
  • A valid visa 
  • Photos (passport-sized)
  • INR 1000 as the application fees. 
  • Form 1 and Form 1A

Availing  a Commercial Driving Licence in Arunachal Pradesh

To avail a commercial driving licence (Saarthi) in Arunachal Pradesh, the following documents are required:

  • Form 2, Form 1A, and Form 5 (duly filled)
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of identity
  • Passport-sized photos

An applicant can check their driving licence status online with the help of the state’s online portal.

  • Go to the official website of Parivahan Sewa and click on 'Online Services'
  • Click on 'Driving Licence Related Services'
  • Choose the state as 'Uttarakhand'
  • Navigate and find the tab 'Application Status.' Click on it
  • Enter the required details
  • Enter the Captcha and submit

Driving Licence Test Procedure in Arunachal Pradesh

The driving test in Arunachal Pradesh is conducted to test the driving skills of an applicant. It is conducted as per rule 15 of the Motor Vehicles Act and in the presence of a motor vehicle inspector. An applicant can obtain a learning licence as well as a permanent driving licence by qualifying for the driving test as well as an online exam.
