The big, bold, and the beautiful. Launched in 2020 after heavy speculation and a seemingly endless wait, the successor to the first generation Thar is a modern take on the iconic old-school rugged terrain tamer. The all-new Thar was unveiled on the eve of India's 74th Independence Day and made available to the customers from October 2020.
Mahindra & Mahindra confirmed that initial bookings for the Thar crossed 75,000 in the first year, and the company had to cease accepting new bookings for the vehicle as it could not keep up with the pace. The wait times for some of the more popular variants have grown to several months, and numerous potential customers claim that they will have to wait until late 2022 or early 2023.
Mahindra Thar has several variants in both petrol and diesel, choosing from either a manual or an automatic transmission. Prices for the Thar start from INR13.17 Lakh and can reach up to INR15.53 Lakh. Mahindra & Mahindra aims to bring the Thar to a wide range of customers with diverse options, spending habits, and preferences. It offers customers an all-rounder SUV with off-terrain capabilities.
Thar offers three types of roofs to choose from - hardtop, softop, and convertible. The car has standard safety features with mandatory driver and passenger airbags and an anti-lock braking system. Drivers can choose between the mHawk 130 diesel engine or the mStallion 150 petrol with an option of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
