No, comprehensive car insurance is not compulsory but as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, all vehicles on public roads in India must be protected by third-party liability. The answer is yes. Accessories that do not come as part of the vehicle and have been installed separately will be insured independently on payment of the extra premium. The premium would be 4% of the sale of electronic accessories plus a service charge.
The answer is yes. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, no one shall use (other than as a passenger) or allow or authorise any other person to use a motor vehicle in a public space in India without a third-party insurance policy (Liability Insurance). Therefore, the customer has to ensure that the vehicle is at least protected by Liability Only Cover.
Your Maruti car will not be protected against its depreciated value or its reinstatement value. Instead, it will be insured on the basis of its declared insured worth (or IDV). Basically, IDV is the current value of your Maruti car in the market. In the event of the complete loss or stealing of the insured Maruti Vehicle, IDV will be the money you will earn from the insurer.
