The Goa Transport Department was recognized under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The department is the only body in charge of overseeing transportation-related activities and ensuring adequate facilities for the general public. Regional Transport Office Goa operates under the jurisdiction of the Goa Transport Department, which is in charge of carrying out the regulatory activities and provisions outlined in the Motor Vehicles Act.

Functions of Goa Transport Department

Goa RTO office performs different functions. Some of them are listed below-

  • Issuing Driving Licence: The Goa RTO issues different licences such as learner's licence, permanent licence, renewal licence, etc.
  • Conductor Licence: Goa RTO is responsible for the issuance of licences for conductors of stage carriages.
  • Registration of Motor Vehicle: The Goa Transport Department provides registration documents and certificates like Trade Certificate, temporary or permanent registration, etc.
  • Fitness/NOC: Goa RTO issues a no-objection certificate and fitness certificates as well.
  • Online Permits Application and Objection System for vehicles: Another job done by the Goa RTO is to issue different types of permits such as vehicle replacement, CNG, and LPG retro fitment, etc.

How to Get Motor Insurance in Goa?

The M.V. Acts encourage vehicle owners to insure their vehicles with adequate motor insurance. Two types of motor insurance policies are available- comprehensive motor insurance and third-party motor insurance.

How to Get Two-Wheeler Insurance in Goa?

In India, third-party two-wheeler insurance is obligatory. One can look for different service providers for bike insurance online or offline. One can get quotes from different insurance providers and choose the one they like for their two-wheeler.

How does RTO Impact your Vehicle Insurance Premium in Goa?

The Goa RTO, where you register your car or two-wheeler, has an impact on the vehicle insurance premium you pay. Insurance providers divide locations across the country into Insurance Zones based on the risks associated with the vehicle. Vehicles registered in metropolitan areas in Goa would pay a higher premium due to the increased risk of accidents, theft, and vandalism.

How to Get Vehicle Registration in Goa?

If one buys a new car or transfers a vehicle from another state, one must register it at the appropriate RTO office, according to the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.

Different Types of Vehicle Registration in Goa RTO

There are two main types of vehicle registration in Goa. 

  • Temporary
  • Permanent

Temporary registration in Goa is only valid for seven days. However, in some cases, it can be extended for some time. Temporary registration is obtained at the time of vehicle purchase from the dealer. Because a vehicle dealer cannot deliver an unregistered vehicle, a temporary certificate is issued to the vehicle owner at the time of purchase. The owner must apply for permanent registration with the RTO closest to their location. 

Transfer of Vehicle Ownership in Goa RTO

The application for vehicle ownership transfer must be submitted to the registering authority where the vehicle was originally registered. The documents that are required for this case are mentioned below-

  • The vehicle's original registration certificate (RC).
  • Two copies of Form 29 duly filled by the respective applicant
  • Attested copy of Vehicle Insurance Certificate
  • Attested copy of Certificate of Pollution Under Control (PUC)

Renewal of Registration in Goa RTO

A new vehicle's registration certificate is valid for 15 years, after which it must be re-registered with the registering authority where it is currently registered. The following documents must be submitted by the applicant as part of the process:

  • Form 25
  • The vehicle's original registration certificate (RC).
  • Receipt of payment for road taxes
  • Attested copy of Vehicle Insurance Certificate
  • Attested copy of Certificate of Pollution Under Control (PUC)
  • Form 60 and 61
  • An applicable fee

Duplicate RC in Goa RTO

If a vehicle's original Registration Certificate (RC) is lost or misplaced, a duplicate RC can be obtained by applying to the appropriate registering authority. The following documents must be submitted with the application:

  • Two copies of Form 26 duly filled by the respective person
  • An original copy of the police FIR
  • Attested copy of Vehicle Insurance Certificate
  • Attested copy of Certificate of Pollution Under Control (PUC)
  • Attested Copies of Forms 60 and 61
