Lakshadweep RTO was established in 1990 under Section 213 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The RTO is headed by a transport commissioner in the tiniest Union Territory spread over 32 square kilometers. Lakshadweep RTO is empowered to deal with various regulatory and enforcement functions enshrined in the governing act. Thus, it implements road safety, pollution control, registration, and licensing measures for an effective and safe transport system. Accordingly, LD RTO Office administers the single district and 10 sub-districts located in the capital on Kavaratti Island.

Every motor vehicle running on the Indian roads must be covered with appropriate insurance according to the MV Act, 1988. The two types of motor insurances to choose from are third-party and comprehensive. While the former is compulsory, you can additionally opt for the latter for better coverage. Though Lakshadweep has a small population of approximately 67 thousand, both private and public sector insurers offer suitable plans for vehicles.
As already discussed, you can choose a third-party compulsory plan or an optional comprehensive plan. In the case of new vehicles, the car insurance plan is bundled with the dealer’s sale process. On the other hand, you can renew or buy the plan online at the insurer’s portal or online aggregators offering competitive quotes in a hassle-free process.
Two-wheeler insurance plans are similar to the four-wheeler, in as much as the third party is compulsory and the comprehensive is optional. However, you can opt for a longer tenure of two or three years with supplementary benefits bundled in the single two-wheeler insurance plan. It saves the hassle of annual renewal at a reasonable cost.
