It is essential for every vehicle to get registered in Kerala according to the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988. It is thus important to cater to Kerala vehicle registration details for the registration of vehicles. Details are mentioned below:

Temporary Registration

As per Section 43 included in the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a vehicle can roam with temporary registration for about a month on a temporary basis. The temporary certificate can be obtained by a dealer but one must obtain a permanent registration within one month.

Permanent Registration

As per section 39 included in Motor Vehicle Act 1988, it is compulsory for every new vehicle to be registered in relevant RTO. Vehicle registration is an easy process and one can apply for RC to RTO with Form 20 and other documents within 7 days of the purchase of the vehicle.

Ownership Transfer

The RC transfer is a simple process that can be done at the relevant RTO office or at the Kerala RTO Website. This is done when the vehicle is sold or acquired at a public auction. For this one needs to apply for RC transfer at the RTO office with documents such as Forms no. 29, 30, original vehicle registration, NOC, vehicle insurance document, etc.

Ownership transfer to another state

When ownership of a vehicle is to be transferred from Kerala to another state, the owner needs to obtain a NOC from the relevant RTO office. After this, he/she can apply for registration certificate transfer in another city with documents such as NOC, Form no. 27, original registration certificate, insurance certificate, etc. One can also apply online by knowing the Kerala RTO Code of respective states.

Transfer of RC in case of death

In case of the death of the owner of the vehicle, the legal successor has to intimate the registration authority. After which he needs to apply for RC transfer within 30 days of the demise. He can apply with documents such as death certificate, succession certificate, Form 31, etc.

Renewal of Registration

Registration certificate for any vehicle is applicable for only 15 years after which the owner needs to renew the RC. For renewal of vehicle registration, the owner can apply to the RTO office with documents such as Form no. 25, RC, insurance document, etc. The process includes inspection of the vehicle before the renewal of the registration certificate.

Duplicate Registration

If due to any reason the original registration copy is destroyed, misplaced or lost, it is possible to obtain a duplicate RC. For this, the owner needs to lodge a complaint in the concerned police station. After this, he/she can avail another copy by approaching the RTO authority. Here he needs to apply with Form no. 26, police certificate, vehicle insurance document, etc.
