Functions of the Dehradun Transport Department

  • Conducting Driving Test: All the driving tests are conducted in the presence of the driving inspector. When you wish to take the driving test, you need to make an appointment with the driving inspector at Dehradun RTO in advance.
  • Issuing a Driving Licence: After you clear a driving test, you are eligible for a driving licence that will be issued by the RTO office. However, to qualify for a driving licence, you need to have a learner's licence at least 180 days prior to applying for a driving licence. How to Get Vehicle Registration in Dehradun?

Ownership Transfer in Dehradun RTO

Ownership of the vehicles needs to be transferred to the current owner's name to avoid any unwanted situations. Following are the scenarios in which you need to transfer the ownership. You can do it by visiting the Dehradun RTO office. 

  • Within three months following the death of the vehicle owner, ownership of the vehicle must be passed to the successor.
  • To transfer ownership of a vehicle through a simple transfer, both the transferor and the transferee must reside in the Dehradun RTO's jurisdiction.
  • If the vehicle is purchased at a state or central government auction, the registration must be completed within 30 days of taking possession of the vehicle.

Renewal of Registration in Dehradun RTO

After the expiration of the registration of the vehicle, you can renew it easily by filling and submitting form number 25 at the RTO. Renewal of the registration follows a similar procedure as that of the original certificate procedure. However, you need to initiate the procedure within 60 days of registration expiry. You need to provide your original RC book as well as your PUC certificate at the time of renewal of the registration. 

Duplicate RC in Dehradun RTO

For acquiring the duplicate of the registration certificate, you need to provide the police certificate in case of theft or the loss of the original certificate along with the Pollution Control Certificate (PUC) at the Dehradun RTO.
