In the financial year 2019, more than 32.7 million vehicles were registered in the state of UP. UP Regional Transport Office, or Uttar Pradesh RTO, manages vehicle registration and issues driver’s licences. The UP RTO Office also promotes safety on-road and also keeps a check on vehicle pollution.

How to Get Vehicle Registration in Uttar Pradesh?

Let us now take a look at the Uttar Pradesh vehicle registration details. The types of registration done by the UP RTO office are:

• Temporary Registration
  When you buy a new vehicle, it is registered by the vehicle dealer/ proprietor. The registration is for a limited period of a few days during which the permanent registration needs to be applied from the Uttar Pradesh RTO Office.
• Permanent Registration
  An application form needs to be filled and submitted by you to complete the procedure. Post this the permanent registration number would be allotted by Uttar Pradesh RTO Office.
• Ownership Transfer
  It is a procedure from the earlier owner to the new owner by submission of Form 30. For a financed vehicle, a NOC needs to be obtained before transferring the vehicle.
• Duplicate Registration
  An application needs to be submitted with the Motor Vehicle Inspector Grade 1 or to the Regional Transport Officer.
• Renewal of Registration
  For renewing the registration, the following documents need to be submitted at the RTO office at least 60 days before the expiry date of the vehicle registration.

1. Form 25
2. PUC of the Vehicle
3. Registration and fitness certificate of the vehicle
4. Receipt for road tax payment
5. Valid car insurance policy
6. Copy of the owner’s PAN card or Form 60 and 61.

• Transfer of RC in Case of Death
  If the nominee has been added, submission of Form 30 and 31 along with the new owner’s KYC documents would suffice in case of transfer of the vehicle’s ownership.
• Ownership Transfer to Another State
  Form 29 along with other required documents needs to be submitted for a change in state registration.
